Silence is welcome in this dreary swell of life.

Ribcage horrors and blood-borne strife.

Safety is a dream I had, kindness is a knife.

Waking with hollowed heart, this isn’t home to me.

Sleeping with eyes open, this isn’t home to me.

Dreaming of somewhere far, this isn’t home to me.

This shadow is haunting all my days,

an apparition watching me always.

And through the doors that once protected us.

It comes and goes.
