Stone tired

I could have kissed you and then said goodbye

I didn’t try

Now I’m leaving with two lips too dry

Given the seasons that change

Rearrange and exchange all we made

Crashing like waves and the tides

And the covers that hide all your shame

How can I sleep?

With these storm clouds

You’ve the warmest bed around

When the thunderclaps get loud

I will run from the sound

Stone tired

Like a rock I will sleep by your side

I’ll stay through the night

And will sneak out with morning’s new light

Given the time and the grime

And the sand that we scrubbed from our feet

Polished to prim, prepped, pristine,

Purified, and kept clean in the heat

How can I sleep?
