Me and all my friends used to play in bands

T-shirts of our favourites hanging in our closets

With records that we swore no-one else

Could ever get their hands on

We started out sane

Spread ourselves thin

With all-ages shows

And playing in empty clubs

Pour our words into shapes

Broke our credit, left our tickets unpaid

I remember Van Collins and broken glass

Nervous nights spilling on the floor

We tried praying we tried drinking

But we never tried a cover song

Now I leave my jacket on

The back of the chair on the table at home

Where I sit on at night and sing until the morning

I was hanging at the college house last night
