Drown - Something Clever

Every lie salts the wound a little further

Even though I know you’re trying to help

And the best way that you can help at this point in time

Is just for you to say goodbye

With nothing to hold onto

I’m sinking further down

Every fiber of my being knows that

I will drown

The waves are unrelenting

And I can’t hear a sound

Late one night a dream awoke me

When I thought I’d already gone

A small light caught my eye at the bottom of the hill

And something told me that I’m not quite done

That small light that kept me going

Eight some-odd years ago today

All that’s left for me to do at this point in time

Is to gather the courage to say

With nothing to hold onto

I’m sinking further down

Every fiber of my being knows that

I won’t drown

The waves are unrelenting

But then again so am I

As I climb a little further

I can feel the sky
