I’ve chosen the hard way

I’ve tread the narrow path

But convenience sets in

And my convictions collapse

Under the pressure of potential failure

Under the weight of expectation

I can never live up to these standards

I have to escape

This cycle of failure

And constant letdown

I got a bitter taste of truth

So I cleansed my pallet, washed down a lie

Self-doubt fed my apathy

Misplaced anger, clouded identity

Longing for purpose

Longing for clarity

The constant battle between who I am

And who I should be

I can’t believe

I’ve become a slave to insecurity
