How long faded from the middle

We had five set up for dinner.

And our father, giving up some pigment,

Told us endings lead to something better.

Slow declines are long to settle.

Leaving one home for the other,

Shaded, helped us three to blend and cover,

Showed us how to want more.

Some things have left a stain.

We were young and could never understand

Details in the gray.

They both show us all the time

That what happened twenty years ago

Was not designed, that it won’t ever break us.

Dye runs looking for ovation,

Eager for some modern praises.

And we get mixed up

Stroking muddy phrases.

Colors off the page and down our tables.

All of them are labored.
